Winneburg
Areas within Winneburg show signs of repair work, but there are many aspects of early architecture still extant.

Below, a set of stairs that once led to battlements on the wall.
Left and below inset, a view of one of the gates and tunnels that provided protection for the castle.  The inset shows the indent for the wooden beam used to help bar the gate.
Left, a section of wall within the inner ward showing one of the stairway areas, the stairs which are no longer extant.

Below, a portion of arches that once existed to support a stone floor above the lower level.  One of the aspects of Gothic architecture was the use of heavy arch supports to provide the necessary strength for floors to handle static and dynamic loads.
Left, a nice view of the inner ward about the keep.  The keep is closed as the stairs and floors within are gone.

Below, a portion of the residence with the entrance gate.  The circular area to the right is the main cistern that caught rainwater for future use.
Left, part of the castle near the edge of the hill and lookng towards Cochem.

Below, part of an authentic stairway that winds only part of the way before being closed off by debris.  The recent use of cement paste to maintain the walls is clearly visible.
