Trifels, Scharffenburg, and Anebos
Some of the walls that have received minimal restoration and reconstructive work.

Below, one of the loopholes.  The wedge design allowed a defender to engage targets at various angles with minimal exposure.  Should the wedge be inverted, the outer opening would be too large, allowing incoming projectiles to ricochet through the loophole and strike anyone beyond.
Trifels is childhood dream of a castle, and is simply wonderful to roam and discover.  Therer are numerous passages and tunnels to explore.  Many of these were not open until recently as restoration work has shored up walls and ceilings to prevent collapse.

Left, this stairway is largely reconstructed, though based on the original.

Below, a unique hole into the "bowels of the earth" type stairway!  One can only be intrigued by such views.
