Kasselburg
From the top of the keep, one gets an excellent view of the other portion of the keep and the surrounding countryside.  Visible is the crenelation of the tower and the drain.  The tower probably had a roof, but water could still blow in through the crenels.

Below, another view of the first bergfried dating back to the early 1200s.  The tower to the lower right was added several centuries later to strengthen the defense of the inner ward.
The roof of the tower has been extensively restored, and stretches the entire width of the structure.

Below, looking up along the wall of the keep.  Such keeps were difficult to take by storm and usually fell after a lengthy siege.
