The stairway to the right is obviously new, though the entrance above is largely authentic. Some rebuilding has been done around it to prevent collapse.
Below, one of the inner passageways carved right in the stone. Sandstone is hard enough to use for building, but soft enough to carve and shape. This passageway would have been easy to defend, and yet would have allowed the castle's defenders access about the structure.
Right, and below, two stairways that are probably authentic to the structure, and thus about 500+ years old. The steps show the wear and tear made on sandstone through the years.
Below, the way to one of the battlements on the Altdahn section shows steps that are almost certainly authentic. These are almost entirely worn away, and the passage was actually difficult to scale because of this.
